Sending a text message with FishText can cost significantly less than sending a message through your mobile network, particularly if you send a lot of messages overseas. Whilst text message bundles and inclusive text message packages may look as if they offer good value, you could achieve substantial savings by dropping these add-ons in favour of sending messages with FishText and may even be able to change to a cheaper tariff.

What is a Virtual Number?

A Virtual Number is a mobile number without a directly associated phone line. This means that SMS messages can be sent from and received by a Virtual Number, but the number can neither make nor receive calls.

Using a Virtual Number allows you to send and receive SMS messages without ever revealing your personal mobile number. Many users find a Virtual Number provides them with privacy and security, particularly when exchanging messages with strangers. Virtual Numbers purchased from FishText are UK mobile numbers. Therefore, an additional benefit of using a FishText Virtual Number, if you have a non-UK number, is that people in the UK can send text messages to your Virtual Number and only be charged for sending a UK message.

Virtual Numbers purchased from FishText take the form of an arbitrarily assigned UK long mobile number. Virtual Numbers cost 10/15 and are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, at which point you can either choose to keep the number for another year, at a cost of 10/15, or let it expire. Replies to SMS messages sent from your Virtual Number will be posted to your FishText Inbox; it is not possible to forward these messages to your phone's Inbox or to your email address.

I haven't received my Virtual Number.

Virtual Numbers are sent out by email as soon as the payment for the number(s) has been processed. If you are waiting to receive a Virtual Number from FishText, please check to see whether the payment has been accepted. If your payment for a Virtual Number has been confirmed as successful and you have not received an email from FishText detailing your Virtual Number, please check your 'Junk' and 'Spam' folders, in case the email has been placed in one of these folders.

If you have definitely not received an email from FishText confirming your Virtual Number and are a registered FishText user, please contact us, either by logging into your online account, following the 'Support' link and submitting a Support Request, or by sending a message from your FishText mobile application to '12345'.

If you have definitely not received an email from FishText confirming your Virtual Number and are not a registered FishText user (i.e. you are signing up for a FishText account with a Virtual Number), please click here to submit a Support Request.

I would like a refund for my Virtual Number purchase.
Unfortunately, FishText Virtual Numbers are non-refundable; this is clearly stated at the time of purchase. If you decide to buy a Virtual Number from FishText and your payment is accepted, you will own this Virtual Number for 12 months from the date of purchase.
A message sent to my Virtual Number is unreadable.

Your problem could be being caused by the sender of the message sending messages in a non-standard way. Please ask you sender to resend the message to your Virtual Number, but restricting the message length to 160 characters or less and ensuring that they are not using Unicode. If this does not resolve the issue, please contact us, either by logging into your online account, following the 'Support' link and submitting a Support Request, or by sending a message from your FishText mobile application to '12345'.
